Why Power Quality knowledge is essential for your installation

In modern industry, hospitals and data centres, stable voltage - the well-known 'pure sine wave' - is no longer a given. You probably already see the symptoms in your own working environment: LED lighting that flickers annoyingly, transformers that overheat without any obvious overload, or sensitive PLC equipment that spontaneously fails.

The cause often lies in 'grid contamination'. Phenomena such as harmonics, voltage dips, transients or poor power factor (Cos Phi) pose a serious threat to continuity. The fundamental problem for many technical managers and engineers is that these phenomena are completely invisible without the right measurement equipment. And, more importantly, without the right knowledge to interpret those measurements, you are completely in the dark.

Without this specific knowledge, you are sailing blind and accepting unnecessary risks:

• Unplanned production stops: Downtime of critical processes costs money directly, affects your supply reliability and creates unrest in the organisation.
• Accelerated equipment wear: Components such as capacitors, motors and transformers fail long before their technical lifetime is reached. This drives up unnecessary replacement costs.
• Personnel safety risks: Overheating of neutral conductors and unexpected arcs can put your people in immediate danger.
• Improper diagnostics: components are often replaced "at the guess" without addressing the source cause, which is guaranteed to cause the problem to recur.

Training: The Power Protocol (Advanced)

To measure is to know, the saying goes. But in the world of Power Quality, measuring is knowing, provided you know what you are measuring. The Power Protocol' is our advanced training for professionals responsible for diagnosis, analysis and troubleshooting. Here, we make the step from theoretical insight to hard data analysis and interpretation.

We go deep into the interaction between different components in your installation. You will learn to work with advanced measurement equipment (Power Quality Analyzers) and, crucially, how to translate the vast amount of data obtained into a clear diagnosis and a concrete action plan. We deal with complex issues such as resonance, transients, flickers and the exact dimensioning of filters.

During this expert session, we cover:

• The measurement plan: How do you set up reliable metering? Where do you place meters and how do you set triggers?
• Data analysis: distinguishing cause and effect in complex data sets. Was the dip caused internally or externally?
• Simulation: Plant modelling to pre-validate potential solutions (such as capacitor banks or active filters).
• Reporting: How do you translate technical findings into a clear report for management or customers?
• Solution directions: Selecting the right mitigation technique for specific problems.
