Ensuring improved reliability and sustainability at one of the Netherlands’ largest banks

Uptime is crucial for the data centers of one of the largest banks in the Netherlands. Ensuring the continuity of financial services is essential. Every minute of downtime can lead to disrupted transactions, loss of customer trust, financial damage, and regulatory compliance issues.

The bank is also aiming to maximize its data centers’ energy efficiency and minimize its ecological footprint, for instance by using green energy sources and sustainable technologies. By managing Power Quality, Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE), and reducing emissions, the bank can meet its stringent sustainability goals and comply with (inter)national environmental regulations.

“To maximize uptime and use energy as efficiently as possible, measurement and analysis are essential – without evidence, realizing improvements and savings is impossible,” explains a spokesperson from the bank. “HyTEPS assists us in this by continuously analyzing data from our data centers.”

Predictive power

“We realized 650 points of measurement in two data centers, which have a total capacity of more than 10 Megawatts and an emergency power supply,” says Christan van Dorst, Manager of Technical Engineering at HyTEPS. “The data centers are designed to be scalable, allowing them to grow and adapt to the needs of the bank and its customers. Redundant systems and infrastructure ensure there are no single points of failure. At the same time, scalability and redundancy should not pose a risk to uptime.”

HyTEPS’ solution ensures the bank always has an overview of the current situation. Using measurement data and our software, the bank can accurately predict flows in emergency situations. This gives them continuous insight into risks.

The bank spokesperson adds: “We know the exact consumption at any given moment and how it will change in an emergency. Might things start to fail in an emergency? How do we prevent that? And how can energy savings best be realized? Because we are continuously measuring, we can precisely determine the differences after every adjustment to the installation and determine how the entire system is affected.”

“Thanks to our real-time monitoring, we can quickly identify and help resolve issues, improving the reliability of the power supply. We also help reduce energy consumption wherever possible. Accurate measurements and analyses lead to better Power Quality and Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) and lower operational costs. In addition to realizing significant energy savings, reliability is increased by intelligently utilizing data. If significant deviations in energy consumption are detected, automatic notifications can be sent. We also help ensure that electrical installations comply with the stringent regulations and standards in the financial sector, such as those for continuity planning and disaster recovery.”
