What you will do

Technology, freedom and the chance to travel the world from time to time. One week you might be commissioning a system on board a superyacht in Monaco. The following week, you’ll be resolving an electrical fault for an industrial client in Eindhoven, and after that you might find yourself on board a large vessel during a sea trial in Rotterdam. Are you looking for a technical role that’s anything but routine? Then HyTEPS is the right place for you.

As a Field Service & Commissioning Engineer, you will ensure that our customers’ electrical installations operate correctly and reliably. You will combine hands-on service work with the testing and commissioning of electrical installations. You will be out in the field resolving faults, carrying out maintenance, and testing and commissioning new systems. Your work will include UPS systems, active harmonic filters, capacitor banks, voltage regulators, battery chargers and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). Your duties will include, amongst other things:

HyTEPS installation engineer
  • Identifying and resolving faults in various electrical installations
  • Carrying out preventive and corrective maintenance
  • Testing and commissioning new installations
  • Carrying out power quality measurements
  • Replacing electrical components and carrying out modifications
  • You may also assist with pre-commissioning if that is an area of interest to you
  • Providing on-site support to customers and preparing technical service reports

Never heard of Power Quality before? No problem – as long as you have the right prior qualifications, a willingness to learn and the right mindset, we’ll teach you everything you need to know!

What exactly is power quality?

Put simply: how healthy is an electrical installation? Machinery, variable speed drives, chargers and other electrical equipment can disrupt the voltage and current in an installation. This can lead to malfunctions, overheating, energy loss or even failure. And the tricky bit? You usually can’t see these problems. Using measurements, technical knowledge and logical thinking, you’ll figure out what’s going on and how we can fix it. You’ll mainly be working on installations ranging from 230 to 690 volts. In this way, you’ll continue to develop into a specialist in a technical field that very few people truly understand.

What does your working week look like?

You will work at various client sites and travel abroad on average once or twice a month. Such overseas assignments usually last three to four working days. One day you might be working in a factory, the next on board a ship, at an offshore site or in another technical environment. So you’ll be on the move regularly, but not constantly away from home. And there are no regular night shifts or on-call duties. After your induction period, you’ll take on assignments independently. For larger or more complex projects, you’ll work alongside an experienced colleague.

We don’t expect you to know everything about power quality and all that it entails on your first day at work. In fact, you’ll probably still have a lot to learn. Our experienced (service) engineers will guide you through the practical side of the job. You’ll get to know our installations, accompany us on customer visits and discover, step by step, how to carry out measurements, analyse faults and commission systems. Allow around 6 to 12 months to get to know our systems and way of working properly.

What do we value more than you already knowing everything? That you’re curious, take responsibility and enjoy getting to the bottom of technical problems.

FAQ

Answer:

This is our brand promise to you. It means that we do everything we can to ensure that the energy you purchase and consume is of high quality (a 'clean' sine wave). So you can be sure that your processes will keep running, your equipment will reach its expected lifespan and you will not be surprised by unforeseen interruptions.

Answer:

You have a high degree of independence and responsibility when performing on-site measurements. At the same time, you are never alone; you are part of a team of experts and often work closely with partners such as installers.

Answer:

In addition to on-site measurements, you perform simulations and modelling to predict the impact of, for example, harmonics or grid congestion. This enables you to provide proactive advice and mitigate risks before problems arise.

Answer:

Poor Power Quality is often an 'invisible' problem that leads to production stops, accelerated wear and tear and safety risks. You provide the customer with the clear diagnosis and certainty they are looking for.

Answer:

You will advise and work with high-quality technologies such as active and passive harmonic filters, capacitor banks and EMC filters. Your goal is always to improve plant continuity and safety.
