A little known but serious risk: the ‘floating neutral’ in the data center

Voltage imbalances and resulting faults can quickly lead to equipment failure and unforeseen downtime. For data centers, this means business interruptions and loss of customer trust. A “floating neutral” is a possible cause of voltage imbalance. This problem occurs when the neutral conductor in an electrical system is not properly connected to ground or has become disconnected. Causes range from design and installation issues, maintenance errors, outdated or damaged infrastructure, or a faulty connection.
