Some 15 million visitors attended the 2024 Games, and more than three billion people watched the broadcasts. The importance of Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS), which broadcasts from the International Broadcast Center (IBC), can hardly be overstated. The IBC, located at the Paris Le Bourget Exhibition Centre, houses a wide range of technical and administrative facilities. These include data centers, central television studios for all countries, offices, and control rooms for both OBS and media rights holders.
The center’s total power capacity exceeds 17 MW. Advanced electrical systems support the high demands in terms of power, efficient distribution, and reliability. The center is directly connected to the Paris grid and features a complete backup system with diesel generators. Olympic Broadcasting Services wanted to eliminate any potential Power Quality issues or failures in the installation and sought advice from HyTEPS.
Extremely proud
“The IBC is the economic hub of the Games – there’s no room for power outages whatsoever,” says Christan van Dorst, Technical Manager at HyTEPS. “Sensitive equipment must function optimally at all times. Air quality and temperature are crucial, too, and studios need to be continuously supplied with clean, cooled air.”
“Of course, we are extremely proud to have been able to support Olympic Broadcasting Services in making the right choices to mitigate potential risks and problems.”
