Netbeheer Nederland's Power Quality Monitoring project (PQM project) has been the backbone for evaluating the national electricity grid since 1989. However, today's reality is more complex than ever. Energy transition and decentralised generation make adequate Power Quality monitoring more relevant than ever. Continuous measurements take place on all high- and extra-high-voltage connections, complemented by 250 spot checks annually on low- and medium-voltage grids. This generates a huge, continuous flow of data that is crucial for security of supply.

The core challenge lies in diversity and volume. Multiple grid operators provide input in varying formats, coming from different types of meters. Without uniform validation, this data is unusable for strategic decision-making. Netbeheer Nederland therefore sought a partner that not only understands the technical data, but can also consolidate it into one truth. Data quality uncertainty posed a risk to effectively demonstrating voltage quality and complying with legal frameworks.

Adequate monitoring of Power Quality is more relevant than ever due to the energy transition. HyTEPS is in a unique position: they can combine a fresh perspective with Sjef Cobben's years of experience. Netbeheer Nederland gratefully uses both dimensions in HyTEPS' involvement.

The HyTEPS standard: From raw data to tested Netcode compliance

HyTEPS acts as the independent expert validating millions of data points from the power grid. Our engineers clean up the raw input from various grid operators and structure it into one uniform standard. In the process, every measurement is rigorously tested against the Dutch Grid Code and specific Power Quality limits.

This technical analysis requires a unique translation of electrical engineering knowledge into intelligent software. With this, we guarantee that the reports on the NBN website are 100% accurate. Thus, the ACM and grid operators always have reliable facts, without noise or uncertainty.
